Salty Dogs is a great introduction to the water, the waves and the rocky shore. We combine kayaking, paddleboarding, coasteering and beach games into fun-filled sessions that build water confidence and introduce the core skills needed to get into paddlesports.
We start at age 7 as we find this is when kids can begin to competently master basic paddle strokes and moving their boat/board around the water. We also find younger ones can also get a little cold too (hey, it's the North Sea, who can blame them!), so from 7+ kids seem happier spending longer in the water. At age 11, Salty Dogs can graduate to CBK's Academy.
Sessions typically take place in Cullercoats Bay, a sheltered tidal cove, ideal for developing skills on the water.
When is it?
Sessions run as follows:
- Saturdays to May Day weekend: 10am-12pm
- Saturdays from May Day weekend: 9.30am-11.30am
- Extra school holiday sessions: check the calendar below for dates highlighted green
Do parents stay on site during the session?
We ask that parents/guardians help with changing during the first half hour. After that you are free to nip home, grab a cuppa and put your feet up! All we ask is that one parent/guardian be contactable and be no more than 10 mins away from us during the session in case of emergency.
We do have The Snug upstairs for parents too, with self-service tea, coffee and snacks. Please do make use of the space if you'd like to.
How much does it cost?
All kids clubs cost £15 per session, per child. This includes all equipment, instruction and a hot chocolate or squash after the session. You can book four sessions for 5% off or book six sessions or more for 10% off, however please book by phone or in-store for these discounts.
