Today there was some sad news in the North East as three men from South Shields died whilst sit-on-top kayaking on the River Tyne. The men were kayaking in their own privately owned watercraft, however as we operate a fleet of similar kayaks, we wanted to post a short statement.
Firstly CBK send our condolences to the families of the men who were lost. It is truly a tragedy.
Secondly, we ask that if anybody has any concerns about upcoming kayaking trips with CBK or the safety of sit-on-top kayaks, please do come and chat to us as we would happily discuss what processes we have in place to keep you safe. We have worked extensively with North Tyneside Council and the RNLI to agree our safety procedures and emergency responses.
Finally, we would like to repost the words of Northumbria Police as they are really important: "If you are in any doubt about how well-equipped you feel you are to go into the water, step back and come back another day."
We only rent in calm conditions when the risk is absolutely minimal. If you have your own craft and ever need advice about heading out, do not hesitate to get in touch, we're always happy to help.
