Private Tours

Our private tours are ideal for solo paddlers, small groups and families. We’ll pick a great venue and start exploring the local coast or rivers, with the session tailored to suit your group. You'll spend two hours with an instructor where you’ll be learning new techniques, exploring a new environment and maybe trying a new type of water craft.

River Tyne (Newcastle City Centre)

Famed for its seven bridges spanning the steep Tyne Gorge, the Quayside of Newcastle & Gateshead is best experienced from the water. There is no jostling for position here as you quietly paddle beneath the bridges, snapping pictures and enjoying the view as you go. Discover two millennia of chequered history, countless engineering innovations and see the cultural renaissance that is transforming the city. Available on kayaks only, no SUPs unfortunately.

FAQs

What will I see and do?

On arrival your guide will offer a comprehensive safety briefing where we discuss your aims and objectives, the venue and the day’s weather forecast. We’ll introduce you to the equipment you’ll be using and do a quick warm up to get ready for the session. We’ll then take to the water and the skills tuition will begin. Once you feel confident, we will head out on a short journey and put your skills into practice. At the end of the session we will discuss self-rescue techniques and you’ll have the chance to try them if you don’t mind getting wet. We spend at least two hours on the water.

Who is this session suitable for?

This session is suitable for adults and accompanied children age 4 or over. For children ages 4-8, they will often find it difficult to use the paddle and manoeuvre their own boat or board, so we recommend calling us on 0191 251 9412 to book so we can arrange a tandem. For surf kayaking and sea kayaking in boats with an enclosed cockpit, the minimum age is 14.

All members of your group should be comfortable around water and able to tread water for up to 5 minutes. You should also be generally fit, healthy and able to undertake moderate exercise without difficulty.

What do you provide?

  • A professional and qualified adventure guide

  • Premium kayaks and stand up paddle boards from Tootega and Red Paddle Co.

  • Warm 5mm wetsuit and all required safety equipment

What do I need to bring?

  • Closed toe footwear that you don’t mind getting wet (eg. wetsuit boots or old trainers)

  • Swimwear for under your wetsuit

  • Towel, dry clothes and dry shoes for afterwards

  • On warm days, water for hydration and suncream to protect your skin.

We keep a range of neoprene accessories, dry bags and waterproof phone cases available for purchase in-store.
