Receptionist
  • Seasonal (early June to early September).
  • Rate of pay: £9 per hour.
  • Contracted hours: 30 hours per week
  • Working pattern: Thursday-Sunday (and bank holidays), 8.30am-4pm.
  • Place of work: Cullercoats (5 mins from Metro station).

The Role

Your role will be providing excellent customer service to our customers via telephone and in-store. You will primarily be taking telephone bookings, managing the flow of online bookings and responding to email enquiries as they arrive. You will be working in an open reception environment so at busy times you may also be greeting customers and assisting them with check-in for their activities. You'll also be responsible for keeping the paper and electronic records associated with the reception area organised, tidy and secure.

Required Skills

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Impeccable telephone manner.
  • Good levels of IT literatcy and confidence using customer database applications.
  • Attention to detail and a meticulous approach to data security and record keeping.
  • Self-starter, able to manage a range of varied tasks and deadlines.
  • Friendly, approachable and a team player.
  • High levels of literacy and numeracy (eg. GCSE grade C in maths and english, or equivalent)

Staff Instructor (Cragside)
  • Seasonal (early June to early September).
  • Rate of pay: £9 per hour.
  • Contracted hours: 24 per week
  • Working pattern: Thursday to Sunday (and bank holidays), 10am-4pm, until mid September
  • Place of work: Cragside Estate, near Rothbury (due to the rural location, you will need a car to get to work).

The Role

Your role will be staffing our lakeside operations at Cragside Estate in Northumberland. You will be readying customers for their paddlesports activities, delivering safety and instructional briefings and monitoring their progress on the lake. You'll also deliver our instructor-led guided activities on both kayaks and canoes, for adults and young people, twice daily in a sheltered water environment. As safety cover for the lake, you will also be responsible for any rescues and first-aid required if customers get into difficulty. There is also a small amount of cash handling and record keeping too.

Required Skills

  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Minimum British Canoeing L1 Coach OR Paddlesports Leader OR proven competence to equivalent standards.
  • Minimum British Canoeing Foundation Safety and Rescue Training OR proven competence to equivalent standards.
  • Minimum Current Outdoor First Aid Certificate OR equivalent (2 day).
  • UK Sport Safeguarding in Sport trained and certified (this can be provided if you don't have it).
  • Self-starter, able to manage a range of varied tasks and deadlines.
  • Friendly, approachable and a team player.
  • High levels of literacy and numeracy (eg. GCSE grade C in maths and english, or equivalent)

Staff or Freelance Instructors (Cullercoats)
  • Seasonal (early June to early September)
  • Rate of pay: £9 per hour (staff), £12.75 per hour (freelance)
  • Contracted hours: To be agreed with applicant. We can offer a minimum number of hours if requested, casual also fine if you are balancing other commitments.
  • Working pattern: Varied, includes weekends and school holidays.
  • Place of work: Cullercoats (5 mins from Metro station).

The Role

Your role will be delivering excellent customer service as well as fun, memorable and safe paddlesport activities at our busy beachside store in Cullercoats. Activities include kayaking, paddleboarding, coasteering and water safety skills. You'll be working with schools, univerisites, the general public delivering a diverse mix of fun and coached sessions. Occassionally we lead trips on local rivers and lakes too across the north east region, so any local paddling knowledge you have will be invaluable. In addition to your coaching role you'll be responsible for the care and maintenance of equipment, setting up and clearing up, delivering customer service in and around the store. If you are over 25 and hold a full UK driving licence, you may be required to drive company vehicles too.

If you are applying for a freelance role, you are expected to provide your own safety equipment, PPE and transport to/from any remote work locations. You are also responsible for your own invoicing and tax contributions.
